Have an excuse handy. If the straight and simple statement is not enough or if you have a pushy friend who keeps pushing cocktails your way, you can make up an excuse. The secret here is to make it believable and to make yourself sound convincing.

I’m on a special diet that doesn’t involve alcohol

I want to lose weight

I have a meeting early tomorrow, I can’t be hung over

I have to study later

I’m sick

I still have hungover from last night

I’m training for a marathon (etc)

3. Try humor. To not offend your guests or your host, you can try humor. Break the tension and make sure you don’t poop on the party by being funny.

If I drink another glass, you’d end up wearing it

Thank you, but I’ve already made enough stupid decisions sober

I tried alcoholism–it didn’t work out

4.
