Bridges of Hope Guests on DZME Radyo Uno to shed light on addiction issues.
Bridges of Hope Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center guests on DZME 1530 Radyo Uno to tackle drug abuse and clear up the myths about addiction and rehabilitation.
Last January 2016, Bridges of Hope-BF Program Director Guillermo “Gimo” Gomez and Bridges of Hope-QC Assistant Program Director Manvic Zamora was interviewed by DZME anchor Connie Lopez. Gomez and Zamora tackled the effects of addiction on the body, in the mind, and how the destruction ripples from the addict to his or her family and loved ones.
When asked by Lopez on how Bridges of Hope performs its role to help a drug addict, Gomez answered that the rehabilitation center helps recovering drug dependents by identifying addiction as a disease of the brain and by diving deep into the root causes of their addiction, which is involves their own attitudes and behaviors, as well as their environment.
He furthers, “One the recovering drug dependent can identify and know his condition as a brain disease, then maybe he/she can start making and ‘informed decision,’ a decision to ‘stop’ and not just ‘rest’ in a rehab.”
Gomez adds that if it is just treatment without education, the treatment itself will not work, so recovering drug dependents are taught important and practical life skills that can help them cope with many life situations without having the need to turn to drugs or other addictive substances or behaviors.
In addition to Gomez and Zamora, radio anchor Lopez also has other guests on the show. This included a father of a young man who was killed due to drug-related crime, as well as two self-confessed addicts.
What transpired was an honest and eye-opening discussion on the devastating effects of drug addiction.
