While taking narcotic drugs are dangerous to take and abuse any time or season, there are 4 drugs that are especially dangerous for you in this hot summer season.
Here in the Philippines, summer temperature can reach up to 43 degrees or even more. Therefore, people usually take this as an opportunity to go out to the beach, attend music festivals, and since classes are over, to go on vacations and parties.

However, this season of clear blue skies and warm–if not hot–weather, can be especially dangerous if you’re using these four drugs.
1. Cocaine. Cocaine deaths are on a high when the weather’s hot, especially during summer. This is because cocaine disrupts the body’s ability to regulate its own temperature, resulting to hyperthermia, or an abnormally high body temperature. This can cause sudden trips to the ER and even fatal overheating.
2. MDMA. This summer season, when there are many music festivals and parties, teens and young adults who use MDMA are at a higher risk. Their age group is known for taking MDMA (Molly or ecstasy) as a way to heighten their experiences. However, the substance also spikes not just their senses but their body temperatures as well. This can cause them to dehydrate and have heat stroke, which can be fatal.
3. Meth. Meth, or shabu, as well as other amphetamines are also much more dangerous in the summer. This is because the substance delays the body’s heat to perceive or feel exhaustion and heat. However, the drug also increases their body temperature, and just when they start to feel this, however, it could be too late and they are at risk of overheating.
4. Alcohol. While alcohol is not all the time referred to as a drug, it is still, after all, a substance. In fact, it is also one of the most abused substances all over the world. Alcohol dehydrates the body and disrupts its ability to regulate body heat.
Don’t get us wrong, there’s no right time or season to take drugs. These disrupts the body and brain’s natural functions in more ways than what was indicated above. Aside from physical effects, these drugs also interfere with your ability to make safe and sound decisions as compared to when you’re sober.
Therefore, the best advice we can give you is to enjoy the summer sober.
