Porn addiction is a kind of behavioral addiction, also called process addiction. In this case, the behavior you are addicted to is viewing pornography, whether online or in magazines or other materials. Nowadays, however, many get addicted to online pornography because it’s easily accessible in any device anywhere and at anytime.

With this type of addiction, the brain behaves like those of someone addicted to drugs or alcohol–you get a certain high off of watching porn and so, you do it again and again with ever increasing frequency and duration.

Signs of Porn Addiction

While pornography can be part of a healthy sexuality, it can become an issue when it is illegally produced and being watched by someone under-aged. Beyond that, however, there is addiction, which is a whole new problem altogether.

1. When time seems to fly by when watching porn. You spend hours watching porn on a regular basis.

2. Increasingly bizarre content. As with addicts having increasing tolerance, your preference in porn becomes more and more bizarre, bordering on unnatural because the “normal” thing doesn’t satisfy you as much. This is a serious sign to watch out for.

3. Lying. Lying and deceiving are common among all addicts, whatever substance or behavior. With porn addiction, you try to hide your activities by lying and hiding, sometimes even to the point that you’re also lying to yourself.

4. You’re incapable of stopping despite problems at home, in school or at work. Aside from this, there may also be financial problems that may arise, as well as many others.

5. Disinterest in actual sex. As you delve deeper into your porn addiction, people become objects to you. You are unwilling to have sex with people because they fall short of your expectations and you can’t duplicate the things you see on video.

6. You become isolated and withdrawn. The things you used to enjoy, like hobbies and going out with your friends don’t interest you as much anymore. You spend more and more time on porn rather than other activities.
