Stimulants are known to heighten blood pressure, cause increased focus, and even make one aggressive. Learn what kinds of drugs can cause a person to be violent and what you can do about it.

For some people, their first realization that their loved one has been using drugs is through an all-out battle with someone whom they used to know as calm, reasonable, and caring. They never thought that their loved one would do something to hurt them physically and emotionally, to be so violent and aggressive. It is definitely a terrifying experience.

That person puts other people at risk by being unpredictable, aggressive, and violent. People may end up really being badly injured and hospitalized, and police may be called to arrest the person. Also, the drug-induced aggression can be so severe that they wind up in the hospital, but yet are unable to tell doctors what they have taken, which makes it harder to help save the person’s life. There will also be times when the person can also have a physical meltdown that can result in death.

These problems can be traced to a small bag of whitish powder or crystals.

Stimulants: The Aggression Culprits

Many stimulants can cause paranoia and hallucinations. When people use them, they become unpredictable and uncontrollable, often feeling a need to strike at those around him. They may think that others may want to harm him, or are following him, or will point the police to them. They may also think that there are people listening in on him from inside the walls of his house, or there are people watching him from the television.

The class of stimulants that can cause these and other similar effects are:

  • cocaine
  • crack cocaine
  • meth (shabu)
  • bath salts (mephedrone, MDPV, methylone)
  • spice, or synthetic marijuana

Cocaine and meth have these effects after long binges and heavy use. Meanwhile, bath salts and spice can cause these problems even immediately after using.

Hallucinogens Can Also Pose Risks

Meanwhile, hallucinogens can also cause aggression if they get scared of their hallucinations. PCP and LSD are dangerous hallucinogens. PCP can also make a person imperceptive of pain, so they may continue to attack relentlessly even if they get wounded. Ecstasy, on the other hand, can cause paranoia and panic attacks. As for marijuana, aggressive outbursts and some signs of psychosis are associated with heavy and frequent use.

Flakka: A New Dangerous Drug

In 2014, a new drug has begun making headlines, Pyrrolidinopentriophenone, alpha-PVP, or Flakka. It is sold as a whitish to tan powder like cocaine, or as a rough rock form. It causes hallucinations and aggressive behavior.

It causes “excited delirium,” in which a person is paranoid, agitated, and violent. His body temperature also significantly rises, causing his organs to break down, resulting to death.

In the end, there is still no way of knowing for sure what’s inside your bag of drugs, as they can contain many other substances and concoctions that in the end have harmful effects to the mind and body.
