How Rehab Works: The Stages

While different addiction rehab centers have different approaches to addiction treatment and they may have different programs to suit every patient’s need, their rehab program typically undergoes this same stages.

  1. Detox and stabilization. Many addictive substances such as alcohol and opiates require medically supervised detox. Some drugs have to be tapered off to minimize dangerous effects, while there are some that just needs for the drugs to wear off and have adequate rest.
  2. Clinical assessment. Aside from medical tests, a clinical assessment of addiction and any other co-occurring disorders is required so that the facility can tailor a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
  3. Primary treatment. In a residential rehab facility, this typically lasts up to three months, wherein you learn to respond better to cravings and triggers as well as allow you to adjust in a rehab setting.
  4. Intensive phase. More thorough counselling and treatment programs will be employed to teach you life skills and coping mechanisms to prepare you to face life sober.
  5. Reintegration and continuing care. Your treatment doesn’t end when you leave the rehab facility. After all, recovery is a lifelong commitment. At Bridges of Hope, we provide lifetime after care support for all who have completed the program.
