Many who use drugs end up selling them, most probably because it’s the only way they know to support their addiction. They may have lost their current job and have no steady way of earning income. Furthermore, looking at their own drug dealers, they may think that it’s a fairly easy way to make money.

However, there’s more to drug dealers than meets the eye. While there are drug addicts that turn out to sell drugs, there are those who don’t use drugs and are relatively successful drug dealers.

What is it really about drug dealers that make them do what they do despite the consequences? If you’re considering to become a drug dealer, then here are some things you should know.

7 Things You Should Know About Drug Dealers

1. They don’t look like drug dealers. Perhaps you have your idea of what drug dealers look like from the movies. In real life, however, they’re not the gangster-type you think. There are drug dealers that look like your mom and are really moms, and there are those that look like successful over-achievers.Some even still have their full-time jobs. There may even be drug dealers who are well-known as outstanding individuals in their communities.

2. They’re not worried about getting caught by the police than by being beaten up by their own customers. Their main concern are in avoiding getting ripped off or even beaten by their customers. They know that in their line of work, they’re not really safe, from their competition and from their own customers. Their families might get threatened or even hurt because of what they do.

3. Their market isn’t what you’d expect. You might think of drug dealers and envision slums, but that’s not really the case. Many drug dealers live in fancy houses and go to fancy places to meet fancy people who buy drugs from them. From students to young professionals to even successful businessmen, these functional addicts get their sources from drug dealers who don’t look the part.

4. They see drug dealing as a career choice. Many become drug dealers because normal jobs aren’t good enough for them. While there are many legitimate ways of making money, there are people who dream of a grand lifestyle that drug dealing affords them.

5. The catch: drug dealing isn’t what you think. While they think that drug dealing can make you rich fast, none is farther than the truth. Unless you’re a big player with hundreds of thousands to invest in drugs, then you’re just breaking even. In fact, the market is flooded and come to think of it, the money can’t really make up for the dangers.

6. You can go to jail. If ever you have enough money saved up from drug dealing, you are bound to spend these protecting yourself. From paying policemen for protection, paying guards to protect you, and paying lawyers to bail you out, you’re bound to either go broke or go to jail–that is, if you don’t get assaulted or even murdered.

7. You can get robbed or killed. You are dealing with sketchy people on both ends–your suppliers and the people you sell drugs to. On top of that, you’re also committing a crime. Big-time drug dealers and even drug addicts or plain people who are under the influence will not have qualms about pointing their guns at you, much  more firing them if a deal goes awry. Besides, you can’t call the police if you get threatened or beat up.

Reality is, the world of drug dealers is a dark and seedy underworld. While the money and the lifestyle can blind you and attract you, at the end of the day, you don’t have peace of mind and security–two things that even drug money can’t buy.
