Pornosexual is a new term that is coined to describe a person whose sexual preference lie with porn more strongly than with actual sex. However, isn’t this just a fancy term for a porn addict?

What is pornosexuality?

Someone who is said to be pornosexual is a person whose sexual orientation is linked to porn. However, is it really a sexual orientation?

Sexual orientation is used to describe people who are heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or any other sexuality on the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

Pornosexuality doesn’t really involve being with another person. In fact, it’s simple a choice to not be with humans sexually, to avoid human sexual contact. A pornosexual, simply put, is not attracted to humans but are attracted to porn and seek arousal from it.

Experts would argue that pornosexuality is simply a euphemism for porn addiction. Meanwhile, porn addiction is a kind of addiction more linked to, surprisingly, video game or gaming addiction than to sex addiction.

Porn Addiction

Porn addiction is a behavioral addiction, also called process addiction. A person engages in a certain behavior, watching porn, and the brain changes and reacts in the same way as someone who’s been using or is addicted to drugs or alcohol.

Each time you watch porn, dopamine is released to your brain. This gives you that euphoric, feel-good feeling. Soon, this amount of dopamine is not enough and you need to watch more and more porn. You may even venture into more elaborate or exotic types of porn.

This further develops until you can’t be satisfied by sex with another person. You’re only satisfied whenever you’re watching porn. Simply put, you have a decreased ability to enjoy intimate and even loving sexual connections and relationships with other people.

And this is the premise behind a person who is a pornosexual.

How do you know you’re addicted to porn or if you are pornosexual?

The best way is to assess how porn has changed your life and your relation with other people. Take an honest assessment of yourself and how porn has brought trouble into your life.
