Many people use the term “rock bottom” when referring to drug and alcohol addiction. People who have substance addiction will not admit their problem or even try to seek treatment until they have reached the worst and lowest point in their life, such as a terminal illness, imprisonment, accident, lawsuit, divorce, or even death of a loved one.
Often, concerned family members and loved ones of the addict would be at odds with themselves, wondering just how far or how long they should withdraw their care, support, and concern so that the addict wold hit that very low point and finally agree to have treatment and enter a facility such as Bridges of Hope Drugs and Alcohol Foundation, Inc.
The Good News
In reality, you don’t have to wait for your loved ones to hit rock bottom before they can get the treatment that they need. In fact, most addiction and rehab specialists and counselors would advise against waiting for rock bottom. This is because the longer that you wait for treatment, the higher the risk of your loved ones getting into something that they may never turn back to or escape from. It may be too late for them.
