So maybe you consider yourself a moderate drinker. You enjoy an odd glass of wine or a bottle or two of beer to unwind or cap off the work week. Are you drinking too much?
A few alcoholic sips can one day slip into something harmful–even deadly. Here are the 10 signs that you may be drinking too much:
Red Flags You’re Drinking Too Much
1. Peeing at night. You often have to get up at night to pee, which means you’re drinking too much more alcohol than your body can handle.
2. Dry eyes. When you wake up, you feel that your eyes are dry. This is because alcohol dehydrates your body, including your eyes.
3. Your drink gets you through. Whenever you have a rough day at work or in the home, it’s the thought of having your drink at the end of the day that gets you motivated. If this is the case, then you definitely have a drinking problem.
4. Tummy troubles. If you have watery stools, this means that you’re drinking more than you should.
5. Irritable and forgetful. Your behavior also changes when you drink too much. First of all, drinking before sleep causes your sleep cycle become fragmented, so you become grumpy the next day. You feel restless and forgetful.
6. Restless sleep. Though you drink moderately, it can still wreak havoc into your sleep cycle. It is in sleeping when your body restores itself. But when you drink too much alcohol, your body eventually forgets to sleep efficiently, not letting you go into deep, REM sleep.
7. You’re not tipsy. Having a couple to a lot of drink without easily being tipsy isn’t something to celebrate. It means you’ve build tolerance and are probably increasing it even more, causing you to need more drink to feel that “buzz.”
8. Check your teeth. Alcohol can do a lot of damage to your teeth. It causes tooth enamel to erode, while red wine can also stain your teeth. If you have stain and erosion problems, or if you find yourself needing fillings, this could probably be caused by your drinking.
9. Healthy tan? Ever been complimented for having a healthy glow? This could probably be due to jaundice. This means you are on your way to a liver disease–that is, if you don’t already have it. Check the whites of your eyes–if they’re also yellow, then you are in the early stages of an alcohol-induced liver problem.
10. Dependence. When you order more drinks than you can normally drink, when you drink more, drink harder, or even bring booze on a party, then those are signs that you are hooked.
