For those families who are broken and in pain, Christmas may represent something that is far from the warmth and glee that many others feel during this time of the year. For those who have sons, daughters, parents or spouses who have addiction, here is a Christmas Prayer for you.

A Christmas Prayer for Families with Broken Hearts**
O Heavenly Father,
You have written a story of Christmas, a story of hope, of love, of family.
Assure these family members, that it’s not the end yet. You’re still writing theirs – and that of their family members who are struggling with addiction.
This Christmas season may just be unbearable, but this is just one more chapter. We pray that you give them strength and hope, as well as a renewed awareness of Your presence, a more steadfast faith in your plans. In all the mess and mystery in their family, let them hold on to You for strength.
When they encounter emotional triggers that fill their eyes with tears and their hearts with overwhelming emotions, bless them with divine comfort. Remind them You sent Your Son to wipe wet cheeks because our pain matters, our lives matter, your addicted family members’ lives matter.
Father, walk closely with each family member through those difficult days and nights this holiday season. Help them not isolate in sadness or numb their pain in unhealthy ways. Lead them to a place of peace and joy, nestled in their Savior’s arms. Lead them to Your Word and to worship. Work powerfully through the Holy Spirit to do the impossible in their hearts. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for the daily strength and endurance. Thank you for caring. Don’t let their hope and love die.
In the name of our Messiah, Jesus Christ, the infant King and Son of God. Amen.
